Kingstons Tours was originally known as “Kingston Brothers”, and was founded by Fred Kingston senior, in 1921. A former road builder, Fred senior saw potential in passenger transport and purchased two open air horse drawn carriages called drags. These were followed by a model T-Ford, Chevrolets, Studebakers, Plymouths and Buicks and by the end of World War 2 the business was a thriving country taxi service and emerging school bus business.
When his father retired in the late 1960’s Fred’s son, Fred junior, began running the business in his own right, and it was then that he began to focus on extended touring, one of the first Victorian companies to do so. Fred’s first trips were short expeditions for local clubs and church groups, but in 1972 he began tours to Central Australia in a 45 passenger Bedford bus. Over the next decade, he added several more tours and gradually established a reputation for well organised, down to earth adventure holidays.
The business grew steadily until Fred’s passing in 2004 when it was sold to Swan Hill Bus Lines and, most recently, to Don Imrie who has over 25 years experience in passenger transport.
Kingstons Tours are now based in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne.
Don has brought his focus on customer service and satisfaction to the business and will continue to offer the highest level of service to all of Kingstons Tours clients in the western districts of Victoria, as well as introducing the same experience for those residing in the Melbourne metropolitan area. |
